Who Lives if India Dies?

Who Lives if India Dies?

“Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.”

George Orwell, 1984

Recently, I died in my dreams and went straight to heaven. There I had the privilege to meet many prominent freedom fighters and political leaders from India including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Mangal Pandey, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Bhagat Singh, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Lal bahadur Shastri, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The propaganda of Vikshit Bharat@2047 had already arrived before I reached the gates of heaven. So, everybody was curious to get a glimpse of this New Vikshit Bharat. Here is how I described the current state of affairs in India:

Vikshit Bharat has arrived in the town
Let’s hear the tale of the clowns
The facts I will state
And the story I will narrate
But promise no frowns

India the nation
Was once a great civilization
Here Hinduism was a way of life
There’s more than dust in the archives

Behold, this was the land of yore
With the tales of magic galore
A place for joy and laughter
Without any master

Then they came
And the time changed
Thou now it lies in tatters
All falsehood we must shatter

Enough of the past
The future is overcast
And there’s not much to forecast
Let’s talk about the present at last

Childhood spent in studies
Adulthood wasted in worries
Life slips through the fingers
And the hope no longer lingers

The Swarag lies far above the earth
A mystery none could unearth
Mythology is the dominant theme
And heaven remains an afterlife dream

The Lotus wants to bloom
Amidst all the gloom and the doom
When history is getting a saffron makeup
The holy cows don’t want to wake up

The Swacch Bharat is mired in loopholes
With clean toilets and unclean souls
Now 2024 election circus is going on
And the social fabric has been torn

The PM spews venom
And chemicals are injected into watermelons
While the PM is a master in theatrics
The people live inside the matrix

A Chaiwala brews storms in a teacup
And activists are put under lockup
The voters are suffering from myopia
And the government operates like a mafia

Here Electoral Bonds is the new currency
And 2024 feels like 1975 emergency
While the government machinery is used for political propaganda
The change of constitution is on the agenda

The religon is used as an opium of the masses
And the politicians are no better than the asses
Alas, the Pillars of democracy are falling apart
Yet the politicians don’t fart

Now Ram and Rahim are no more equal
And the State exploits the individual
While Hindutva is hijacking Hinduism
The nation is moving toward fascism

The population is polarized between Us and Them
And a megalomaniac is sitting at the helm
The Dalits live life as untouchables
And the voters remain gullible

The Parliament is crammed with criminals
And the food is laden with chemicals
The political thugs act with impunity
And India, that is, Bharat is in a state of pity

The stock markets are booming
But oh, the common man is fuming
Here the rich man’s fart doesn’t smell
And all is not well

Rising debt strains household savings
But people can’t help falling victim to cravings
Humans have long forgotten simple living
But the reality is unforgiving

Here crony capitalism is thriving
And ruling party coffers are swelling
The 2024 is the new 1984
And laundered money is kept offshore

While unemployment is on the rise
The business of booze is touching the skies
Now Adani is the new Ambani
And AI will hit the jobs like a tsunami

The temples are drowning in money
But the poor souls believe in destiny
While the Gods are rich
There’s no food in the poor man’s dish

The rich-poor gap is widening
And health stats are frightening
When morality is lost in a maze
The crime pays

Here rule of law is sidelined
And in prisons’ undertrials remain confined
The judicial process moves at snail’s pace
And it takes decades to resolve a case

The common man fears the police
And dogs are going obese
Pharma is still a bottle of lies
And antibiotics ignorance helps superbugs thrive

Nobody remembers the freedom struggle
‘Cause life remains a big juggle
Here corruption is endemic
And four million died in Covid Pandemic

The line between truth and lies is getting blurred
One can only guess why single-use plastics ban is deferred
When the Sundarbans is getting submerged
The climate discussion is never heard

Here the water table is falling down
And trash mountains are piling up
Glaciers are receding
Yet net-zero goals remain misleading

The urban areas are congested
And rural development is neglected
Agriculture is in a state of despair
And about farmers’ suicides no one cares

Here fraternity is dying a slow death
And democracy is gasping for breath
While Democracy is now electoral autocracy
The ruling party has lost all legitimacy

Enough, somebody cried!
Who lives if India dies?
Ok, thank you, I replied
Had no choice but to abide
And everyone was left teary-eyed

So, to cut short the story, I ended with the following stanza:

Calling India Vikshit Bharat
Is nothing more than a Shararat
Oh, he kills with his bitter twisted lies
But there’s no cure in sight
